The cans are finished
About three years ago, we sounded an alarm: “The cans are running out” only for small producers.
Today, those 400ml cans are truly finished.
We have held out for three years, but now it is time to switch to the 33cl can. This format, with its advantages, has been imposed on us by the choices of the big groups who, with their dominant position, have decreed the end of the 400ml can for everyone. It was not convenient for them, so they decided it should not be convenient for anyone.
But let’s look on the bright side: the 33cl can is consumed faster, keeping the beer fresh until the last sip, and if you drink two, it makes 66, which is not necessarily an advantage but might unlock some memories.
This situation makes us reflect on the importance of awareness in our purchases. Choosing a product should not only be a matter of price or convenience but also an act of supporting diversity and quality. Purchasing products made with passion and expertise contributes to maintaining a vibrant and varied sector.
Choosing consciously means valuing authentic work and preserving the richness of our cultural and productive heritage. Each of our purchases can make a difference, helping small producers survive and thrive in a market dominated by giants.
Let us remember the words of the head of the Brewers Association during the pandemic: “In times of shortage, there are no antitrust violations, and therefore, larger customers are favored.” Perhaps this does not only happen in times of shortage.
Only by fighting together can we make a difference and preserve diversity ✊
